Dakota History and Storytelling with Dennis Gill
A public event and opportunity to hear oral history, culture and stories from a Dakota elder committed to preservation and revitalization of Dakota life ways.
Dennis Gill Sr. (Ziiciye) is a Wahpekute Dakota and from Enemy Swim on the Lake Traverse Reservation. He has dedicated his life to the revitalization of Dakota culture and ways of life, teaching language, spirituality, and other aspects of culture. A helper and teacher to Dakota people he carries knowledge he’s gained from a life of learning from family, elders, spiritual leaders and ancestors. His other skills include crafting traditional Dakota tools like bows, arrows, clubs, and spears; harvesting, preserving, and utilizing traditional foods, medicines, and materials.
